Bill Gates’ Visit • ID4Africa • OSI 2023
2023 was a year of many exciting events and collaborations for OpenG2P. The team traveled around the world to meet key stakeholders in the fields of Digital Public Infrastructure and open-source technology to showcase the project’s ongoing work and future roadmaps.
On 4th March 2023, the Modular Open Source Identity Project (MOSIP), a fellow open-source project housed in IIIT-B, hosted Bill Gates and a team from BMGF India at the Bangalore International Centre (BIC). OpenG2P was honored to be a part of this event and present our project’s mission, vision, progress, and roadmap to the visiting team.
A notable highlight was Mr. Gates’s interest in the potential of using digital identity systems to drive financial inclusion and service delivery for residents around the world – a mission perfectly suited to integrations of MOSIP and OpenG2P. As our project continues to grow and we head into a future where the need for collaborative, holistic digital infrastructure has become increasingly apparent, his comments provided much encouragement and food for thought.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has been a keen supporter of IIIT-B's innovations in digital public infrastructure over the years. Launched in 2000, the BMGF is one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the world, and has spent over two decades fighting poverty, disease, and inequity in collaboration with local leaders and innovators. OpenG2P was grateful to participate in this MOSIP-hosted event, and we look forward to more such visits in the future!
ID4Africa 2023, the largest international conference for the field of digital identity, was held in Nairobi, Kenya last year. OpenG2P is proud to have participated in this landmark event alongside MOSIP, global stakeholders, and potential OpenG2P-adopting countries.
Held at the Edge Convention Centre from May 23rd to 25th, the event featured an impressive display of technology providers and platforms from around the world, with close to 2000 attendees.
The OpenG2P team took the opportunity to showcase our end-to-end delivery chain integration of identity solutions such as the Modular Open Source Identity Platform, with two demonstrations on each day of the event. The demos prompted several intriguing discussions around financial inclusion and the creation and maintenance of service delivery systems.
The event also provided a forum for OpenG2P to engage in conversations with diverse countries seeking to create or upgrade their national digital infrastructure. We are pleased to be a part of such promising conversations, and look forward to nurturing these partnerships in the future.
The team looks forward to meeting our partners and stakeholders again at ID4Africa 2024!
OpenG2P was thrilled to be a part of Open Source India 2023 on 19th and 20th October, 2023. Held at the NIMHANS Convention Centre, Bangalore, the event gave us an opportunity to interact with a passionate, warm community of technology developers, academics, and stakeholders in the space of open-source technology.
Puneet Joshi, Chief Technology Officer – OpenG2P, spoke at the convention about the project’s establishment and vision as a building block for Digital Public Infrastructure. He also elaborated on the value of interoperability with DPGs such as OpenG2P, and how more efficient and effective Government-to-Person solutions could be built by fostering such integrations.
The team was motivated by the enthusiastic responses of students and stakeholders to the project’s open-source efforts, and we look forward to revisiting those discussions later this year.
